Nice loops! Two suggestions on techniques in NS2: * For volume levels in samples, you're probably better to normalize and then turn down the level in Slate, either under the Sample (letting you control the balance between samples for instance) or the Pad Amp settings tab. This way you've got better gain staging. * If you…

Thumbjam has a really cool electric guitar from memory - named something like Hendrix..... Can't figure out why.... Welcome @mrmein !
-
Welcome back! Looking forward to your new tracks :) I love the energy you get out of them.
-
Nice! Well done for sticking with it :) We'll be here when you've added vocals! It's the repetition which makes it catchy. I was just listening to Sandstorm by Darude this morning.... I think that's a good example :+1:
-
Yeah, I agree with @Stiksi I love randomizers, but they tend to be better in really simple synths. And if there was one in Obsidian I'd never get any work done.... :) However, have you noticed that Obsidian allows you to save different sections of the synth (oscillator, filters, LFOs, envelopes and mod matrix) from one…

Interesting observation @silent1; IMO there might still be a small improvement to be made here, assuming it's not something embedded in IOS rather than in the app.... I'm just glad that NS2 has such excellent file management capabilities, better than any other IOS app I use. The fact that we can even discuss folder naming…

Sounds like you need a manager to impose those deadlines for you :) Keep at it, I suggest you set a deadline of "before springtime" so that you can really enjoy the sunshine when it arrives!
-
Sorry :) I hope it doesn't take you long, I'm keen to hear the final result! (Or even the intermediate, with vocals coming later). Keep us posted...

I think you've got one with the opening melody. Reminds me of Monophobia by Deadmau5. I think there might be too much going on at times, so maybe simplify it? I agree with @iPadBeatMaking about the bass, I'd start by simplifying that so that it just gives a foundation to the melodies - at times it seems to want to be the…

Chilled :) Just what I feel like we need right now! I must be emo at heart.... Great example of how NS2's folder structure makes NS2 scale well, as well.
-
+1 for the heist montage :) and I suspect that heist ends with success! That's just a good track in general - well done.
-
Thanks @Stiksi! Works well :) I'd like to add "drop them into Live in the arranger / song view, not the clip view! It is very quick indeed. By the way, Nanostudio has always had the best way of getting mixdowns onto a PC - thanks for that @"Blip Interactive" it's really appreciated.
-
I hadn't read this thread the first time, but I think Will's got a big point here. Although there will be ways to get clips out of NS2 and so they could be exported into a Live set, it would probably not work as the musician expects it to until NS2 actually has a clip layout, and so would confuse and disappoint. For…

Congratulations! Time for a virtual release party ;)

It's weird, isn't it? Is each note some sort of chord? The fun part is that you can break all the rules of harmony, and play chords on your keyboard which make no sense :) Does anyone know why this is? The keys inside the AU don't act the same way, but I can't figure out a way to record these as midi.
-
I suspect that you can save the project even after any AUs have stalled and it will all still save correctly - do anyone know if this is the case? If it is, then any changes wouldn't be lost. I'm not sure how saving of AU states is achieved, but I suspect that it is through the AU sending state information to the host at…

Means we're not that far away after all :)
-
Correct :) Thanks!

Thanks @Stiksi! I like the balance you achieved. You might be able to add a few more plateau-loops or short builds between sections (especially before a chorus or drop) to give you a little more time to interact with the audience, especially giving you a chance to make eye contact and share the fun with them :) And maybe…
-
Good example - I can understand how this would make a huge difference. Thanks @Stiksi :) If it turns out to be difficult to implement, it would be good to know that as well.
-
I agree. In particular it seems to affect quick sweeps across a largish CC range. It's as if there's some code to simplify the number of points. This generally works well enough with knob movements, which tend to move in the same direction over time anyway, but I suspect that and quick CC changes catch it out. In a CC…

You should play live again @Stiksi! The more you do, the better you will get. You've got the musical skills, and you've obviously thought about how to make it more entertaining than just "press play", now just polish those skills :) And let me know when you tour New Zealand so I can buy tickets! By the way, if you have…
-
That was so cool! Great set, and all played so well! There's nothing like playing live :) I'll be watching this video again.
-
Lol - good point! Include me as +1 for pop-up choice, since I'd really like that attention too :) And I think it's a good idea!
-
I agree about glue but I find that once the clarity is there in the mix (as good as I can get it) then it's easier to add glue, especially in some form of saturation. And I love Dark Side of the Moon! And I also find that it's easy to play with a mix forever and never be happy, not because it's a bad mix, but because it's…
-
@profJrockdetroit there's quite a good (IMO :)) free download here https://www.antidoteaudio.com/freebies and NS2 makes it really quick to put these into your library.
-
@PUMP would creating another track lane in the same kit do what you want? I use that a lot to separate the different functions, e.g. basic kick and snare is in one lane, percussion in another, fills in a third. Another option in some cases is to set up a separate track with no instrument and just send the midi to the track…
-
Very cool! You've done well, and great to see collaboration here :) I'd like to hear that guitar up a little more as well. It just seems to be hiding at the moment. I'd also try EQing to have a little less bass in your vocals, since in parts (e.g. at 48 seconds in) it sounds to me like your voice is clashing with the long…
-
Bet it's good to back into it :) Love the sound of that bass, too.

Thanks @Cray23! Angst seems to be what I'm made of, probably comes from listening to too much Joy Division and Nick Cave and industrial music when I was younger. I like something with bite - an edge of some sort. I admit I was surprised how deep FM can get. I wasn't familiar with it (I still pretty much just change things…
