@dendy cool track, man! How many compressors did you use?
-
It’s a good thought, and I’m curious to know what @"Blip Interactive" thinks about it. I do recall he wrote a post on here about how to achieve a more “tape sounding saturation” in-app but I’m not sure if that was Obsidian specific.
-
@Cinebient @OhWell I kept the Moog Model D and Model 15 on my iPad, as well as several Korg synths simply because you can’t get those sounds anywhere else. I’m content to use them when I need “analog” sound. It would be great to have more analog modeling in Obsidian, but I do wonder what that would do to it’s efficiency.
-
I’ll try that, but I didn’t give them custom names. Just to be clear.
-
@jwmmakerofmusic nice tune! It sounds like an intro score for an Irish TV series. Quite melodic, and even happy. 👍

What this guy said. 👆

Thanks. It’s only 2 Slates and 3 Obsidian. Once I figured out how much modulation can be achieved with the LFO’s and the filters, I started having WAY too much fun with Obsidian. Also, it helped that I found where the Slate FX busses are located. I don’t think I need per pad effects. 4 busses suits me fine. The samples are…

Nice job!

@LesT Hi Les. Welcome! Just FYI, if you want to get a lot of comments on your posts, it’s good to make as many comparisons as possible between Nanostudio and Beatmaker 3. Instant popularity! (I kid, I kid!)
-
@jumpercollins your song is very pretty. Thumbs up.
-
@3sleeves that’s a sweet- soundingtrack. Like early 90s hip hop for the glitch age.
-
I’ve posted a feature request, too. An OP-1 style tape effect. However, I’m not going to let that distract me from using a great app, and it doesn’t look like feature flaws are stopping you, either. Music is going to be made, and that’s what it’s all about. You’re right: this is a great thread!
-
@tom_tm thanks! The crazy thing is that it’s only 5 instruments. 2 Slate, 3 Obsidian, no extra fx busses. Amazed at the amount of sound in this app, once you start figuring out how it’s arranged. Thanks for the music, Blip!

Stupid comment wa in the wrong spot. Deleted for preservation of the culture! @dendy

Patiently waiting for Logic Pro iOS.

If Matt can integrate AUfx automation without sacrificing CPU use or stability, I’m all for it. But if there’s a chance that it will have a negative impact on those things, I don’t want it. If it will add a bunch of menus that I have to swipe past, no thank you. I own a bunch of 3rd pray AUs. Haven’t used them in NS2 yet,…
-
@3sleeves no, not this time. This was a bunch of Korg minipops and dd-1 samples. The other drum loops were from Elektro Guzzi. It’s a track I made for a remix contest on Metapop. It won’t win, but it also wouldn’t have won if I didn’t enter it at all, so... Thanks for the feedback! It’s cool to see people like you and…
-
This is very much the way I see it. If I set up that much midi/control stuff in my “songs” I’d never finish a track. At some point music would start to feel like a chore.
-
@Fruitbat1919 yeah, I can see that you’re pretty serious about sound, and that’s a good thing. I agree that Korg and Moog are crazy good synth makers. The apps you mentioned are just...headshaking. And your reasoning is good. I just don’t want people to get hung up on “analog!” and then miss out on what is a fantastic…

Here’s something I noticed today: when mapping some parameters to Obsidian Knobs 1 and 2 on an initialized Obsidian patch, the labels didn’t change. I think they stayed labeled as cutoff and Q, or something like that. Might be something to check out.
-
I don’t mean to be a jerk, but as an owner of all the newer Korg iOS synths, and the Moog iOS synths, I’m willing to say that if you can’t get a decent sound out of Obsidian, you probably haven’t explored it enough. I’m not a professional music maker or sound designer, but some of the patches I’ve gotten out of it sound…

@nkdvkng those are nice sounds. It’s a cool listen.
-
@LucidMusicInc nice job on that track. Love the round bass in the kick and the slight width in the bass synth.
-
Yep. Everybody “steals” in development. It’s not the features in the app, it’s how they are arranged and implemented that really make the difference. There’s nothing in NS2 that you can’t find in other apps. But moving around in the app and responsiveness are what make it uniquely appealing.
-
@"Blip Interactive" I love this stupid app. Even if you don’t change it, I’ll still love it. Nothing on iOS is as fast, stable, and intuitive as this thing. The only synths I still have are the Moog Model D, Moog Model 15, Korg iWavestation, and Korg PolySix. I would delete them, but they cost money, and also Moog just…
-
I agree with this request. It’s kind of tricky to implement, but it’s worth it if it can be fit into the app. For non-beat based samples, a short term rigged solution is obviously a marked loop-point. But true time stretch is always better. That’s one feature I wouldn’t mind seeing.
-
If people get on Matt for stealing Intua’s timeline, they also have to get after Intua for stealing Native Instruments’ live play mode, as seen in the last photo. Everybody steals in app development. That’s what makes me laugh when people start fling accusations of “rip off!” whenever a new app is released. What’s sauce…

Here’s another one I just “finished” (if you can call it that). https://soundcloud.com/kleptolia/monaco-fish

@dendy at this rate, we will have set up a 🏴☠️ internet sample ripping/sharing site long before the first Slate kit gets shared.
