  • phew. ok, that's a relief. even more relieving... Go for the brown note!
  • Yeah, that's deserved. I'll gladly accept the title "commie bastard weirdo, four dimensional tone boffin" (minus the "zenharmonic" part - I'm not a fan). but yeah.. Apologies. A simple feature request gone a little bit off the rails. Let's please keep it friendly though. I mean I gather you're joking, but as a general…
  • @"Blip Interactive" not sure if this could be applicable to obsidian, but I think they're onto something here with this TuneUp thing as a way to keep all compatible instruments locked in to the same tuning.
  • I'm not sure what a black note is. if you're talking about the sharps and flats on a piano keyboard, well then I'm not sure how adding more black notes will help understand something like a bolen pierce tuning or partch's tonality diamonds (how exactly to graphically map 13 limit just intonation system using only sharps…
  • pretty slick! thanks for sharing.
  • I'm truly not trying to be contentious. I'm simply trying to understand where you're coming from here.. In your post above, you make the claim that the piano roll needs to meet some xenharmonic facebook group's approval: I don't understand the reasoning tbh. The main thing that isn't clear is what exactly you mean by "the…
  • thanks! yes, I've been following that thread. very interesting.
  • I didn't find any examples of the piano roll in the thread.. I quit facebook a while back, so that's not an option for me. I found a few images of the Reaper roll in a google image search, but not a lot of info regarding its application. perusing the manual, it seems that you need to create a text file to enter note names…
  • what's this now?? :o
  • Exactly. And while I agree it would be extremely useful to have a customizable piano roll, I'm not holding my breath. I'm simply hoping for an uncomplicated way to retune Obsidian to harmonic tunings. I'm playing in via standard midi keyboard, so for my purposes the piano roll is fine as it is. I can see how a customizable…
  • yeah, it's really nice!
  • Informally, yes. I think we crossed paths on an earlier thread. Seems we're both looking forward to the possibility of microtonality in NS2. He suggested that the piano roll and keyboard would need to be addressed whereas I really don't think any of that needs to be messed with. Simply adding the ability to import scala…
  • yes, I'm not saying it should be top priority, but you'll notice that most of the heavy hitters out there (desktop and hardware) nearly always have microtonal capability, and there's a reason for this.
  • it doesn't need to be represented in the piano roll. would be cool, but too complicated when you have 53 pitches per octave. Nice and simple.. TUN and/or Scala import would do the trick. :)
  • here's to hoping that NS2 will get the microtonal treatment! =) obsidian in just intonation... now that would be a treat.
  • yep, the dx7 with grey matter (as well as the DX7iifd, DX11, TX802, TX81Z, and a few of the others) was capable of full keyboard pitch remapping, making them fairly capable tools for microtonal music.
  • I reached out to the developer of KQ Dixie a while back about adding microtonality. They seemed fairly uninterested in implementing it even though several of the original DX and TX synths had this functionality :-( Still dreaming that iOS will eventually gain some more microtonal tools. The tricky part about doing…
  • Program change would be really helpful for those of us using external midi controllers and sequencers and such. the most direct solution (indeed the solution that some hardware synths without a "bank" architecture use) is to select programs from the "ALL" patches list this way: LSB 0 = PC 1-128 LSB 1 = PC 129-256 etc..…
  • the beauty of NS2 is that it is streamlined for ios. As long as it's easy enough to export stems for mixing/ mastering, I'm happy.
  • so stoked for this one!!!
  • I'm not sure I understand how this would work. Can you elaborate? No offense, but from the description, it sounds like it would be a fairly convoluted way to achieve a tuning across instruments. The biggest hurdle in making microtonal music with several instruments, is getting them all tuned to the same scale. And in live…
  • thanks for the info! I've never really run into problems myself with Scala files not mapping right, but if that's the case, maybe tun would be better. (or both! I just checked, and Sunrizer loads both .scl and .tun.) yes, import in Sunrizer is a bit of a mess, but I'm just happy it can be done at all. I've contacted Jarek…
  • ha, I agree! I'd love to see a hexagonal keyboard, but let's be realistic here.. Hopefully someone will come along and create an excellent Hex keyboard Auv3. I think we need to keep expectations and feature requests simple if they are to be taken seriously. My aim in starting this thread was to find out what other…
  • nice, thanks for the tip!
  • NS2 is a dream. ...now if only this dream had customizable colors... :p pure greed. I know...
  • and yes, Synth One has a killer tuning system. Too bad that it's not able to import scales (although I believe it's on the horizon). If you haven't checked out Wilsonic, you might want to! Developed by the same person who did the tuning panel for Synth One. A truly wonderful app that explores the tuning theory of Erv…
  • just curious - why would .tun be preferable? I haven't noticed much of a difference myself, but then I haven't read the literature to understand the difference. I do know that scala has been around a long time, and is the most widely used. But a lot of the big guns (omnisphere etc) use .tun. I'll look into it, but if you…
  • Yeap, I agree with @Cinebient on this one. I think the piano roll thing gets far too complicated trying to accommodate every tuning system under the sun. It's too tall an order. And midi pitch bends gets too messy. I know because I've tried nearly every microtonal software out there. I'm currently wrestling with an H-pi…
  • exactly my reason for bringing it up here ;) If anyone else here would like to see this feature added at some point, please let it be known. I know there are some synths that have little tuning sliders for each of the 12 notes, but I find these are really insufficient for most microtonalists needs (most obviously that…
