Thanks for the feedback, I've tweaked the mix by reducing and high-passing the drum reverb, and I've also dialled down the bus compression ratio to 1.4 to 1, so hopefully the drums will be crisper. https://www.dropbox.com/s/lct59wkmgt48hn0/A%20Beautiful%20Girl%20In%20A%20Photograph.wav?dl=0

OK - thanks! I'll revisit the drum verb, there isn't really that much but with the transients it is very obvious.
-
Thanks! That's a very thorough breakdown, I'll see what I can do. There's only a smidge of bus compression on the master bus (with a ratio of around 1.7), but it does affect the drum sound, so I'll consider dialling it back. I'm glad to hear the vocal sounds good as that's obviously the main concern, and I was interested…
-
Not easily at this point in time. Audio tracks are coming and then it should be possible. No ETA though.
-
Already answered on the Audiobus forum, but this is due to the wonky sustain pedal support in NS2.
-
Thanks! On the choruses I'm singing a harmony part, pitched lower than the main vocal and mixed just below it. You can achieve something like this with various plugins (Eventide QVox for example) or even just by duplicating the vocal and pitching it down, but it never sounds as good as actually singing it. All the vocals…

Thanks! The guitar is from Beathawk (the Nylon Guitar in the Baroque IAP pack), but I'm tempted to record a real guitar part for it, to add a couple of slides in there and give it a more guitar-like phrasing.
-
Nice tune, I like the way it doesn't sound to dancey even though it's all built with very EDM-ish apps.
-
Thanks!
-
Yes, exactly. And also highlighting the root note on the keys would be nice to have as well.
-
Yes, a darker shade for the root note would be welcome.
-
That's good news. It's been implemented in AUM now too, so it's definitely possible.
-
Toneboosters Barricade is available on the phone - I would say it's almost as good as FabFilter's Pro L 2: it can provide an average LUFS reading of a whole track. The display is a smidge better in the FabFilter but in terms of functionality Barricade is just as good.

I always bus the vocals to one of the groups in Auria anyway, so I have 8 slots by default (4 on the channel and 4 on the group). You can daisy-chain channels in Auria via bussing if you even need more inserts. That's not to say there's anything wrong with Cubasis 3 of course, I might check it out at some point.
-
For now what I do is to compose and arrange in NS2 and then just export the stems and do the vocal tracking and final mixing in Auria - best of both worlds.

Thanks!

I have to say I don't really understand the logic behind the keyboard octave being saved with the patch - it implies the sound designer knows what octave you intend to play the patch in, which is crazy. Add to that the fact that's it's a workflow nuisance having to constantly shift back up when browsing, well, I'm guessing…

Thanks - I've copied and pasted both these suggestions into my mix notes, and will try them out. It's always useful to have an impartial opinion!
-
That's a bouncy bit of electro madness, I love the lead sounds, they're like bottled happiness :) Great title as well.
-
I think the reason that no iOS DAW can do this is probably because no-one has figured out how to do it yet. It's probably not documented by Apple.
-
Gritty and intense! B)
-
Thanks for the listen! I'll have a listen to your latest track tomorrow.
-
Thanks! I love MGMT, well, their first album at least :)
-
Joyful upbeat electronica, a perfect start to the new year 🎵
-
Interesting thought - I might give it a try. I presume that would only be on the brighter verse section and not the darker chorus? I'm quite happy with the vocal tone on the chorus (but then again it's always difficult to be objective about one's own voice, so a second opinion is always valuable).
-
Thanks! I'm a bit unsure about the mix, so I will leave it for a month and listen again with fresh ears at a later date.
-
You would have to use the Dragonfly in conjunction with a small charging hub.
-
If you don’t mind spending an extra $99 then I think a Dragonfly Black is a pretty good solution, you can plug it into any USB hub and you are in full control of sample rates etc. I bought one for my iPhone XR so that I could have a portable interface and avoid all the annoying sample rate issues with the newer Apple…

It's very easy to use Synthjacker to quickly create an Obsidian patch from a Beathawk instrument, the whole process takes about 5 minutes once you have it set up - I do it all the time.
