I think it's partly because Nanostudio started life on the phone: on a very small screen there is no piano roll that is better than Nanostudio. On the bigger screen of the iPad it could be argued that Gadget for example is a little more streamlined, however I really don't think there's much in it, it's simply a case of…

I agree with the OP, this is one of the very few questionable design decisions in NS2, which is otherwise a really well-thought-out app. I'm not sure what was behind the decision to only implement destructive swing but it's a real shame, because non-destructive swing that you can adjust on the fly while listening to the…

It might be an idea to listen to a few models in that price range, just to see which sound signature you prefer. The world seems to be divided between people who like brighter headphones and people who like darker ones, and the Sonys are very popular indeed, but they're too bright for my tastes. If you prefer a brighter…

Yeah, they are great headphones. They're the reason I sold my HD650s: similar sound signature but easier to drive, and closed which can be an advantage in some situations (noisy house etc).

I haven't heard the Focal Listens, so I can't comment on them. The reason that the Spirit Pros were discontinued though is that many of them broke (split headband) due to a manufacturing defect. I know at least 3 people who had to return theirs. Mine seem OK, I've had them since 2015 without problems so I may have been…

According to Sonarworks' measurements, the most neutral consumer-grade cans are the HD650: Sennheiser HD 650 is pretty much the most neutral headphones available on the market. https://www.sonarworks.com/blog/reviews/sennheiser-hd650-review/ I also think they sound reasonably speaker-like. Personally I don't mind mixing on…

@Stiksi Morphit probably isn't perfect, it will depend on the accuracy of measurements and the quality of the headphone drivers. In my testing though it definitely made the Focal Spirit Pros and the DT770s sound very similar to each other once both were calibrated, so it does seem to be converging them to a standard sound…

Well, NS10s are everywhere as well, and they're not neutral either. Many engineers seem to favour bright/bass light monitoring, but you simply cannot evaluate the low-end if your monitoring is not revealing it to you. Fine for checking how something might sound on crappy speakers, but not suitable for critical mix…

Alternatively another budget pair that is also supported by the Morphit plugin (unlike the Philips cans I mentioned above) would be the Sennheiser HD202. Use these with Morphit and I would imagine you are not going to get anything better for the money:…

I'm not a fan of the Sonys, they're way too bright and not suitable for mixing: https://www.sonarworks.com/blog/gear-reviews/studio-headphone-review-sony-mdr-7506/ £50 is a pretty low budget for decent headphones, it might be worth spending a bit more and getting something like the BeyerDynamic DT770 or the Audio Technica…

Arturia Minilab is pretty good IMO, lots of assignable knobs and reasonably nice keys. Be aware that the MK2 version of the AKAI MPK requires a hub in order to work with an iPad, you can't just plug it straight into the CCK. The hub can be passive (ie not powered) but it is required.

My pleasure!

That's nasty - in a good way :)

If NS2 had been released without AUv3 support surely that would just be one more thing for people to complain about? Personally I think supporting Aus was the right decision. Audio tracks and phone support will come, but it will take time. My guess is that the phone version is probably relatively close, maybe before the…

Thanks, I appreciate the listen and the feedback.

Thanks! I discard most of the tracks I make, but lately the ratio of keepers has gradually increased, so maybe the album will be for early next year.
-
Can you not just copy the package into the Files app from Dropbox and then send it to NS2?
-
@WinConway nice job - you took this much further than I ever thought was possible :)
-
Yeah I had zero interest in EW as a groovebox (just not my thing) but as a synth I really love it, so many wonderful textures, especially in the IAP packs. Really great for creating evolving atmospheric sounds.

I have a couple of EPs on Spotify, this track was mostly done in NS2: https://open.spotify.com/track/1o9ESNSaXHHvrY4o9wFoej

Hey thanks, that's a very nice thing to say. For the time being I'm just concentrating on trying to write as many good songs as possible, and then maybe once I have a few that are good enough I will put them together. My style has evolved naturally, once I make a conscious effort not to use any clichés and avoid very…

Thanks!

Thanks! Yes I'm also looking forward to audio tracks coming, I'll have to decide whether to mix in NS2 or Auria I guess. Now that the FabFilter plugins are available as AUv3 it's certainly a possibility, although I do also use PSP Echo a lot in Auria so that might be one reason to stick with Auria. It also partly depends…

Actually there is a workaround: you can send MIDI out from GarageBand with the RouteMIDI AUv3 plugin: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/routemidi/id1347099452
-
More than likely is that devs simply haven't figured out how to do it. AUv3 documentation from Apple is poor to nonexistent.
-
Yes - good catch.

Creating drum kits in Slate is pretty fast and easy: 1) Import the samples into the general library in NS2 (and not into the Slate instrument folders) 2) Create a new Slate track and initialise the kit using the hamburger menu top right 3) In the Slate instrument view select the Browse icon top left 4) Navigate to the…

@dendy last year I made a short tutorial video about Pro L2: https://youtu.be/Hi7arnsXHHE

I won't make any comment on subjective quality, but just on the actual differences I hear: test 1: the first reverb has more modulation in the echoes (like a slight flanging or chorus effect), the second reverb is a little cleaner. test 2: I didn't really like either of these, the echoes just became white noise. test 3:…

Sorry those sounds are too dense and processed to helpfully compare a reverb, there's very little space in there for the verb to shine through. A sparse piano part would be much better. Also not trivial to do a proper comparison, because there are so many parameters to take into account: can the plugin create a large warm…
