Match this sound in Obsidian (a bit of fun)

edited December 2018 in General chat

At the marked points is a piano lead sound I made that I’ve now lost. It plays nicely at low velocity levels, but distorted at higher velocity when played and key held.

For the life of me, I’ve not managed to make the sound just right again.

Let’s see if you can:

A. Make a similar sound in Obsidian.
b. Guess what iOS apps I created the sound with originally.

As I say, just a bit of fun for anyone who wants to give it a go :)

Sounds like you squeezed the max juice out of those prunes =)
So the sound to guess or replicate is obviously not the drums or sax or the “insect” like sound😀
    The synthy sound right?!?
Knowing you I bet Wavemapper had its hand somewhere in there

Yeah it was one of my ‘work in progress’ things lol

Yep it’s the synthy pianoish leadlike sounds marked at the points on the clip :p

  • Here is an idea.
We post sounds we like most from any other synth. We try to replicate them in Obsidian. The voted best replications will be compiled in a pack that we will sell at the AppStore. We split the money, I get 50% for the idea and rest 50... will go to the lawyers because probably we’ll get sued by the respective companies, blipinteractive included.

    Will do

  • Here is my take. :)
You can fine tune the amount of 'dirt' its ratio to velocity, its attack and the overall release time from PERFORM knobs.

  • Sorry Fruitbat1919... just teasing you I didn’t mean to belittle you or derail your thread in any way. Like the whole idea to trying to match a sound in Obsidian
Good on you😇 Glad you’re on this forum as many are realizing this too :)

O yes that’s closer. Funny I was tweaking your original and it’s about slap bang in the middle of your two. This ones much more playable though.

Was the original TF7? That one is capable of some FM++ sounds.

  • hm ok looks like i’m late to the party...

anyway... tried to retweak a bit @rec work
i’m not satisfied with ovedrive color of tail.. in that song it sounds more clean, not so distorted..

btw in song are 2 notes E3 and C3.. on C3 it there is more harmonics... it sounds like opened filter but it s not filter

in my example is macro knob “presence” ... try turn it to max for second tone, then it sounds a bit more close to original...

still that overdrived tail needs some work

  • Only just got back on, was unable to post on here for a while - dodgy internet maybe.

Will listen tomorrow as wife in bed now

    Yep all the notes if I remember right are E3 C3 G2, then E3 C3 G3
Middle section is the bit that repeats E3 C3 twice before repeating those above.
As I say, I’ve lost much of the original material and am trying to reproduce it to finally get all the other sections together then finish the piece.

I used to have varies versions of that particular section and I know that some versions had some choirs under it, but I’m pretty sure that version of soundcloud didn’t.

Ok for all you who guessed, the answer is:

SynthMaster One. The sound was my own variation of the Preset - Jans Hammer - sounds quite a bit different from the original and for the life of me I can’t remember what I did lol

  • https://www.dropbox.com/s/y585nh1odek9dn9/(FB1919) Dirty Piano V2 + 1 more.zip?dl=0

I’ve done the same as @dendy and messed with @rec starting sound.

My first effort gets the starting sound a tad closer I believe,

My second effort adds towards the velocity control of the distortion and I’ve added another layer to try to beef up the sound. Problem is I’ve lost the delicate first sound from the lower velocities.

I seem to be able to go one step forward and two steps back at times lol
